"Team Dream - Evolution Elite win Perfect Game"

Perfect Game Youth Opening Day Classic tells all that Baseball Season is here. One thing is clear at Perfect Game tournaments, teams need there A Game. That's what the Evolution Elite 14U brought to the January Opening Day Classic. Powerhouse teams like Florida Travel Baseball Royal and FTB Black teams, Lugnuts, Evo Shield and First Prospects were primed for play.

Saturday's pool play is always exciting to see who the favorite will be going into the Sunday championship. Beginning at 8 AM the Evolution Elite took care of business beating the Lugnuts 10 to 0. Then in a much tougher game beat FTB Black 3 to 0. This game was a no-hitter and the coach used seven different pitchers. Evolution Elite Coach Jimmy was happy with the boys performance and praised his defense and pitching. He said, "Any time you play at Perfect Game Tournaments and give two Goose Eggs to the other guys you know the boys are focused and ready to go. We took advantage of opportunities in game one and left some runners on base in game two. I give credit to all the boys for staying focused all weekend long." Going into Sunday with a target on their back as the number one seed and a first round bye, the Evolution Elite would need to win just two games for the championship. The Evolution Elite team is Michael Coreano, Cameron Marruzella, Derick Cantres, Brent Ostrander, Matthew Prevesk, Jose Class, Diego Diaz, Darren Torres, John Holl, Steve Vetter, William  Hagen, Josua Sauer, Coaches Jimmy Coreano and Dereck Torres. The team was able to avoid the 8 AM game and sleep in as their reward for Saturday's performance.

FTB Black took care of business against First Prospects winning 3 to 2. The FTB baseball organization out of Kissimmee Fl is a top-notch organization and attracts top players around the area. So the rematch was set but the Evolution Elite, (out of Melbourne FL area) also attracts the top players who travel far to play with a single team organization. Coach Jimmy gave the hill to Cameron  Marruzella pitching five strong innings to get the win and Evolution Elite prevailed 4 to 3 in a Texas tiebreaker. The win came with a sacrifice fly by Joshua Sauer.

Two undefeated teams made to the championship. FTB Royal beat EvoShield 3 to 2 in a hard fought battle. The Championship game started with FTB jumping out to a early 2 to 0 lead. But in the bottom half of the first Evolution Elite came back with four of their own. In a back and forth affair, key hits and some miss cues by Evolution Elite allowed FTB back in. There were some great defense plays in the game, one by FTB SS Xavier Cintron who did a full diving layout at shortstop to catch a line shot by Matt Prevesk then tossed it to second to end a threat with the bases loaded. FTB Royal battled back and by the 5th inning were up 8 to 6. In the bottom of the seventh with the same score, a walk and a error put two men on base. Cameron came to the plate, laid  down a perfect bunt and beat out the throw. Coach sent base runner from third and one run scored. Derick Cantres hit a sharp ground ball to third scored Deago Diaz moving Cameron to 3rd. Game Tied! Then and next up the 3rd and 4th hitters, John Holl and Micheal Coreano were pitched around. Both John and Michael had a great weekend at the plate and delivered damage earlier in the contest. This coaching move gave a double play opportunity with the number five hitter Matt Prevesk who also delivered damage at the plate all weekend next up. He lifted a sacrifice fly which won the game for Evolution Elite. Pitcher Brent Ostrander came in relief in the third inning and got the win.

It was a very exciting day for the team and we asked Coach Jimmy who he thought would be the MVP and he said, "We got to give it to our pitcher Brent Ostrander he came in and pitched five innings and got us out of a lot of jams. He kept his composure even though we made some miss cues." SSBM suggested Michael Coreano who had a batting average over .500 for the weekend and got the win in game one in relief with a great all around effort for the weekend. Michael plays the positions of catcher first base and pitcher. He does an excellent job in all positions. We agreed to have 2 MVPs, congratulations to both Brent and Michael. Congratulations to the Evolution Elite Perfect Game Champions. SSBM will be at Seminole County Sports Perfect Game Frozen Rope Classic next. Good luck to all the Players and be Safe in this beautiful Florida weather.
